Paper Doll

by tr7zw

Paper Doll puts a customizable, Bedrock-style preview of the player's character on the screen, drawn as a flat figure in the interface.

FabricForgeNeoForgeClient-side onlyCustom license1.16.5 – 26.3

What it does

The preview can be placed and scaled freely on screen. Its visibility is governed by a configurable rule set, so it can appear only while the player performs chosen actions. The preview can also follow other entities, and vehicles such as boats are shown together with their passengers. Some mounts do not render correctly, and the glow effect is not supported.

Paper Doll is a client-side mod, so only the player's game needs it and a server does not have to install it. It requires Fabric API and is published for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge, across 31 release versions, 1.16.5 – 26.3. Files are distributed under a custom license that is not open source, and the source code and issue tracker are publicly linked. The first build was published on 2022-06-01 and the latest on 2026-09-19.

Key features

  1. Freely placed preview

The character preview can be moved and resized anywhere in the interface.

  2. Configurable visibility

A rule set decides when the preview appears, such as only during certain actions.

  3. Spectating support

The preview can follow other entities while the player is spectating them.

  4. Vehicle rendering

Boats and other vehicles are drawn with their passengers included in the figure.

  5. Cape and skin-layer display

The preview shows custom capes and skin layers, so they remain visible during play.
