Origins: RED40

by FintrisOrchid

Origins: RED40 adds a RED resource to the Origins mod, which players build up by eating and drinking blood and that shapes how the character plays.

FabricQuiltServer required, client optionalMIT License1.20.1 – 1.20.2

What it does

Players with the RED origin drink blood and consume red dye to gain RED, a resource that fills from the blood and dye they take in. Their body loses hunger at twice the usual rate, and eating rotten flesh gives them far more benefit than it does other characters. Landing attacks on entities feeds the hunger bar first, and RED is only produced once hunger is full. Hits taken drain RED before anything else, and the body cannot regenerate health naturally, so healing arrives as bursts of RED instead.

The mod adds a set of abilities tied to that resource. Attacks are amplified, and running spends RED, so a character who runs hard loses the extra speed. Rewinding the arm lets the character shoot backwards through the air and briefly regenerate, at the cost of hunger. A right-click sword swing can be rewound once before it resets. Players also start with red dye granted on waking up. The mod requires Origins and runs on the server, while clients only need it for keybind support, so a server running the origin needs the mod and players may leave it out. Files are published for Fabric and Quilt for 1.20.1 – 1.20.2, and the code is released under the MIT License but is not open source.

Key features

  1. Blood and dye resource

Drinking blood and consuming red dye both add RED, which only accumulates once the hunger bar is full.

  2. Hunger-based regeneration

Landing attacks feeds hunger, the body cannot regenerate on its own, and RED bursts restore health instead.

  3. Damage and speed tradeoffs

Attacks deal amplified damage, and running spends RED so the extra speed fades when the resource runs out.

  4. Rewinding arm ability

The arm can be rewound to shoot backwards through the air and briefly regenerate, consuming hunger in the process.
