by ZhiMeow

OptaMod is a Forge client-side utility for Minecraft 1.13.2 and 1.14.4 that bundles several rendering and gameplay tweaks for managing performance.

What it does

Entity Render Culling stops drawing entities that sit beyond a chosen render distance, and Disable Fog removes the fog that vanilla draws. A small counter in the top-left corner shows frames per second and can take the place of the F3 debug screen while it is open. Holding C zooms the view while scaling down mouse sensitivity for finer camera movement.

Smart Tick Culling halts the AI of entities far from the player, and Clutter Reduction limits excess item drops in one area and keeps bats and squids from spawning. Both logic-altering features work only in singleplayer, because they change server logic and multiplayer worlds are controlled by the server. Tick Culling can also break automated farms that depend on wandering mobs, and Clutter Reduction stops squids and bats from spawning entirely, so the in-game config menu lets players switch those features off for a given playthrough.

The mod is released under All rights reserved and is not open source. Files exist for 1.13.2 and 1.14.4 on Forge only, with the latest file, 1.14.4-v1.0, published on 2026-05-30.

Key features

  1. Entity Render Culling

Entities outside a set render distance are no longer drawn, which lowers the work the client does each frame.

  2. Smart Tick Culling

AI for entities far from the player is paused, a change that works only in singleplayer.

  3. Clutter Reduction

Item drops are capped in a concentrated area, and bats and squids are kept from spawning, in singleplayer.

  4. Zoom with scaled sensitivity

Holding C zooms the view and reduces mouse sensitivity to allow precise camera movement.

  5. Disable Fog and FPS display

Vanilla fog can be turned off, and a small FPS counter can replace the F3 debug screen.

Questions

Does OptaMod need to be installed on the server?

No. Only the player's game needs it, and servers run without it. Tick Culling and Clutter Reduction still work only in singleplayer.

Will Smart Tick Culling break automated farms?

It can. The feature halts AI for distant entities, which can stop mobs that wander into traps. The in-game config menu allows it to be disabled.

Which game versions does OptaMod support?

Files exist for 1.13.2 and 1.14.4. No builds are published for other versions.
