Only One Item

by kltyton

With Only One Item, duplicate items from different mods in a modpack are replaced by a single item during data loading, so recipes and loot tables use one type.

What it does

Large modpacks often ship several items that do the same job, such as more than one kind of tomato or silver ore. This Fabric mod maps those duplicates onto one chosen item by replacing them when data is loaded, which covers recipes, loot tables and other JSON-defined content. Replacement happens before the world loads, so world loading speed is not affected by it.

The mod was created to standardize items for one modpack, and it can be used in other packs or on servers. Unlike earlier item-merging approaches, it changes items at the data loading stage rather than afterwards. If an item manager is installed, only one manager is supported at this time. Only One Item is for Fabric, released for 1.20.1, and it needs to run on both the client and the server. Its code is open source under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 or later.

Key features

  1. Duplicate item replacement

Items listed in a replacement map are swapped for one chosen item across JSON-defined data.

  2. Data loading stage

Replacement runs while data is read, so recipes and loot tables already reference the unified item.

  3. Configurable mapping

The mapping lists each target item with the duplicates it absorbs, for example farmersdelight:onion.

  4. Item manager support

When an item manager is installed, the supported manager displays the unified items.

Use cases

Modpack standardization

Pack authors can merge duplicate crops or ores that come from separate mods into one entry.

Server consistency

Server owners can apply the same mapping on a server so every player sees the same item set.

Who it’s for: Modpack authors and server owners who run several mods that add overlapping items, and who want recipes and loot tables to use a single item type.

Commissioned by @Limit小火柴, it is mainly created for the Utopia modpack to standardize various items, but it can also be used in other modpacks or on servers. Unlike One Enough…
