No More Modern Crafts

by millennIumAMbiguity

No More Modern Crafts changes how several recipes are crafted, restoring older versions of some items that later Minecraft releases altered.

FabricForgeNeoForgeQuiltServer required, client optionalMIT License1.18.2 – 1.20.4

What it does

The mod returns a set of crafting recipes to forms closer to those used in early beta Minecraft. Some blocks that now come in many wood types are limited to the oak variant, bed crafts accept only red wool, and an old fence recipe is restored. A separate enchanted apple craft is also added, so players get that item through a shaped recipe instead of the standard one.

No More Modern Crafts is server required and client optional: the server must run it for the recipe changes to apply, while players may add it without any effect on their own side. It is published for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, with builds covering 1.18.2 – 1.20.4. The mod is released under the MIT License and is not open source. Its optional companion, No More Modern Names+, is listed as an optional dependency.

Key features

  1. Oak-only wood recipes

Some blocks that elsewhere exist in many wood types are crafted only from oak, matching older recipe sets.

  2. Red-only bed crafts

Bed recipes accept only red wool, so other colors are no longer valid ingredients for those crafts.

  3. Restored fence recipe

An earlier fence recipe replaces the modern one, changing how fences are made on the server.

  4. Enchanted apple craft

A crafting recipe for the enchanted apple is added, giving an alternative to obtaining it in other ways.

Use cases

Older-style survival servers

Server owners who want recipes closer to early beta can run the mod so that players craft items with the older forms.

Who it’s for: Server owners who want recipes that match early beta Minecraft, and players who join such servers. Solo players can use it on a local world, since the server side applies the changes.

How it compares

Nostalgia Items is server-side only, open source under the MIT License and published for Fabric on 1.18 – 1.21.1, so it changes items rather than recipes and does not need players to install anything. KS Recipes is a data pack release for 1.21.4 – 26.3 across all four loaders, with the server required and the client optional, and it is not open source. 4 Wood│4木塊 covers 1.21.4 – 1.21.11 under the MIT License and is open source, targeting a much later range than this mod.

Questions

Does No More Modern Crafts need to be installed on the client?

No. The environment is server required with client optional, so the server must run the mod and players may add it without changing their recipes.

Which loaders does No More Modern Crafts support?

Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt all have files, with the latest build 1.0.0+mod for 1.20.4 released on 2024-10-09.

Is the optional No More Modern Names+ needed?

It is listed as an optional dependency, so the mod runs without it. Installing it adds to the same naming theme but is not required for the recipe changes.
