Nether Infection
Nether Infection is a Magic mod in which a plague spreads across the Overworld, turning its biomes into a Nether ecosystem block by block.
What it does
The infection spreads from block to block and consumes Overworld biomes, replacing them with Nether terrain. Flora dies where the infection reaches the ground, netherrack takes its place, and the atmosphere becomes hostile. Trees, grass and structures are safe from conversion, but the landscape changes steadily and those changes are permanent once the spread has started.
The mod is aimed at hardcore survival play. Players find that resources on the surface grow scarcer as the infection progresses, which forces quick changes to their routines. Once the infection has reached a stage of development it cannot be stopped or cured, and no containment method is available, so the play is a race against the clock.
The author strongly advises using the mod in a primary survival save and creating a backup of the world before installing or loading the mod, since existing builds and important structures can be affected. Nether Infection is not open source and is released under All rights reserved. It runs on client and server and is published for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge across 29 release versions, 1.17 – 1.21.11. The mod is in its beta phase.
Key features
Dynamic spread
The infection converts Overworld biomes over time, so the world changes as the player explores and builds.
Radical transformation
Converted terrain becomes Nether ecosystem, while trees, grass and structures are left unconverted.
Hardcore survival
Surface resources become scarcer as the infection advances, which pushes players to adapt their routines.
Unstoppable infection
Once a stage of development is reached, the infection cannot be stopped or cured by any method in the mod.
