More Mining Stages
by axialeaa
More Mining Stages lets resource pack authors replace the block breaking animation with their own set of frames, defined in a JSON file.
What it does
Without the mod, the breaking overlay on a block uses the fixed set of vanilla frames. A resource pack can add a folder named moreminingstages under its assets directory and place a JSON file in it with a textures array, listing the texture locations for each frame. Frames are spread evenly across the whole mining animation, and the author can add as many as needed. The mod bundles a built-in pack that doubles the number of frames while keeping the vanilla style.
When Improved Transparency is switched on in the video settings, translucent blocks such as stained glass draw their texture from a second file whose name ends in oit. The mod loads those textures under the specified locations, and a plain string can replace the default path. The destroy stage oit texture name matches what vanilla uses for its own OIT textures.
The mod is for resource pack creators who want full control over the breaking animation, and for players who want more frames from a pack. It requires Fabric API and is published for Fabric only, for 26.2 and 26.3, under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only, so the code is open source. It is client-side only: servers run without it.
