MoonPhaseTools

by TheUnknownLarry

Server owners and players who track the lunar cycle can set or check the moon phase in MoonPhaseTools, a Forge mod with commands for eight phases.

ForgeClient and serverMIT License1.20.1

What it does

MoonPhaseTools adds a command set for controlling the moon phase in a Minecraft world. The commands cover eight phases, from the bright full moon through the fading stages to the dark new moon and back. A player can set the phase directly, which moves the world to the chosen phase at once, or forward it, which only adds in-game days until the specified phase is reached.

The mod also reports information back to the player. One command returns the current moon phase, and another returns the time remaining until night. A reset command sets the in-game day count to a value between 0 and 7, which fixes the cycle position. The mod is built for 1.20.1 on Forge only, and it is released under the MIT License, but it is not open source.

Because the environment is client and server, both the server and every player need the mod installed for the commands to work across a multiplayer world. Single-player worlds need it on the client side as well, since the commands run on the same installation.

Key features

  1. Set moon phase command

Sets the world to a chosen phase immediately, selecting one of the eight named phases.

  2. Forward moon phase command

Advances the in-game days only until the specified phase is reached, leaving the cycle moving forward.

  3. Reset day count

Resets the in-game days value to a number between 0 and 7 for a controlled cycle position.

  4. Phase and night queries

Returns the current moon phase and the time remaining until night, so players can check without leaving the game.

Questions

Does MoonPhaseTools need to be installed on the server?

Yes. The environment is client and server, so the server and every player need the mod for the commands and the phase changes to apply to the world.

Which loaders does MoonPhaseTools support?

The mod is published for Forge only, with a single file for 1.20.1. Fabric and NeoForge builds are not listed in the catalog.

What is the difference between setting and forwarding the moon phase?

The set command moves the world to the chosen phase at once. The forward command only adds in-game days until that phase is reached, so the cycle keeps moving forward.
