Moisturization

by randommcsomethin

Moisturization gives server owners and players control over how farmland takes in and loses water, and how that moisture affects crop growth on Fabric.

FabricClient and serverMIT LicenseOpen source1.18 – 1.20.1

What it does

Farmland moisture is configurable, so the range that farmland absorbs water from, the rate at which it dries, and whether crops die without water can each be adjusted. Natural crop growth can be slowed, and bone meal growth can be reduced or switched off entirely, with bone meal working only one time in three by default. Default crop growth on moist farmland is kept in the mod's own settings, so the effect can be tuned to the world.

The mod includes a sprinkler, a redstone-powered block that irrigates a 5x5 area of farmland around it and can be activated to spew a fountain. Water also moisturizes farmland, and default farmland only becomes wet from the block right next to it, including diagonally. Old-school villager-style farms still work, but larger farms need more irrigation to keep their farmland moist. The author suggests a resource pack to show how much moisture remains in a block.

Moisturization is published for Fabric only, for game versions 1.18 – 1.20.1, and it runs on client and server. Cloth Config API and Fabric API are required, and Mod Menu and Simple Copper Pipes are optional. The mod is open source under the MIT License, and the latest file is 1.3.0 for 1.20.1. Future features are planned by the author.

Key features

  1. Farmland moisture range

The distance farmland absorbs water from and the rate it dries can each be set in the configuration.

  2. Crop growth and bone meal

Natural growth and bone meal growth can be slowed, and bone meal can be disabled on crops entirely.

  3. Sprinkler device

A redstone sprinkler waters a 5x5 area of farmland around it, with a configurable range.

  4. Dying crops

Crops can be set to die when they lack water, so irrigation becomes part of farming.
