Mobtimizations - Entity Performance Fixes
by Corosus
Mobtimizations reduces the server cost of entity AI tasks, including mob wandering, enemy targeting and pathfinding, with each change switchable in the config.
What it does
The mod cuts back several AI routines that run often and cost server time. Mob wander pathfinding runs less frequently, and more so when a mob is far from any player. Enemy targeting is also run less often, and it is reduced further for mobs that are away from players. Each of these changes can be turned on or off, and some can be set to cancel an attempt by chance.
Some tasks are disabled or limited by default. For monsters, the hazard scan that checks a 3x3x3 area on every tick while following a path is turned off, and pets are kept safe by that change. Repeated pathfinding while a path is already being followed is disabled. The search for turtle eggs to crush, done by zombies and husks, is fully disabled by default, and the zombie village raid task has its chance cut to one third. The author reports a stress test with 1000 monsters on a 20-core server, where average tick time fell from about 30 ms to 24 ms and peak load was cut by over 20 percent in each run.
The mod is client and server, so the server and every player need it. It requires CoroUtil, which must also be installed. Files exist for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge, with the latest file 1.20.1-1.0.0 for 1.20.1, published 2024-02-25. Builds cover 1.18.2 – 1.20.1, and the code is covered by All rights reserved, so the project is not open source.

Use cases
Busy multiplayer servers
Server owners running many mobs can cut the cost of AI tasks without removing mobs from the world.
Who it’s for: Server owners with large mob counts and players who want lower tick times without changing spawn rates.
How it compares
LazyAI is server-side only, open source under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only, and published for Fabric across 1.19 – 26.3. Idle Boost is client-side only, not open source, and covers Fabric, Forge and NeoForge for 1.20.1 – 1.21.1, so it changes the client rather than the server. Mobtimizations sits between them in environment, since both sides need it.

What the author says
With each test I had lots of extra mobs spawned - On my 20 core i5-13600K I kept 1000 monsters spawned to stress the server. Mod on: 30ms avg (server load cut by 22%) - 45ms max (peak server load cut by over 50%!)
