Meal API

by FoundationGames

Meal API is a library that lets modded food items fill a separate fullness bar, so eating adds more than the vanilla hunger and saturation values.

FabricQuiltClient and serverMIT LicenseOpen source1.16.4 – 1.20.1

What it does

The library adds a fullness bar alongside the vanilla hunger and saturation bars. Items registered through the library give fullness instead of ordinary hunger points, and any fullness past the usual ceiling goes into an overflow store capped at 180 extra food points. Vanilla foods keep their usual effect, so mods that use the API can offer more filling food without other mods needing to support it.

Saturation keeps working as usual, but since the hunger bar is always full while fullness is filled, saturation gains do not feed the fullness bar directly. The fullness bar is depleted instead of hunger and saturation until it reaches zero. A meal food that does not completely fill the normal bars is eaten for a fullness value, which means the player can keep going without the usual limits. Players should expect the fullness bar to empty quickly if they heal fast.

Meal API is published for Fabric and Quilt. Fabric API is required, and the environment is client and server, so the server and every player need the mod. Files cover 1.16.4 – 1.20.1, with 0.3.2+1.20 for 1.20.1 as the latest file. The code is released under the MIT License and is open source.

Key features

  1. Fullness bar

A separate bar stores fullness that foods restore, alongside the vanilla hunger and saturation bars.

  2. Overflow storage

Surplus fullness past the regular ceiling is set aside in an overflow store, which holds the equivalent of up to 180 additional food points.

  3. Vanilla food compatibility

Vanilla foods keep their usual hunger and saturation effects, so existing food works unchanged.

  4. Meal foods

Meal foods that do not fill the normal bars instead restore a fullness value when eaten.
