Massmotion

by BlueViper

Massmotion changes how far a player can move, jump and swim according to how much the inventory weighs, on Fabric for 1.21.11.

FabricServer required, client optionalMIT License1.21.11

What it does

Each item carries a mass value, and the total of the inventory is recalculated in real time as items are picked up, dropped or moved. More weight lowers movement speed by up to 35%, reduces jump height by up to 25%, slows swimming by up to 50% and increases fall damage by up to 50%. Knockback resistance rises with the load. A soft cap keeps these penalties from becoming unplayable.

Over 500 items have assigned mass values, and the mod includes heavy blocks such as gold blocks. Enchantments reduce the penalties: each level cuts the movement speed penalty by 8%, and the jump and swim penalties by up to 90%. A heads-up display shows the total inventory mass, a load percentage colored green, yellow, orange or red, the current movement speed, and the active enchantment bonuses.

Massmotion requires Fabric API. It is published only for Fabric, with one release, 1.0.0 for 1.21.11, dated 2026-01-22. The server must run it, while players may leave it out. The code is covered by the MIT License and is not open source.

Key features

  1. Inventory-based mass

Over 500 items are assigned realistic mass values, and the inventory total is recalculated in real time.

  2. Movement penalties

Heavy loads slow walking, shorten jumps, slow swimming and increase fall and knockback effects.

  3. Soft cap

A soft cap stops the penalties from reaching levels that would make normal play impossible.

  4. Enchantment reductions

Enchantments lower the speed penalty by 8% per level and reduce the jump and swim penalties by up to 90%.

  5. Load display

A heads-up display shows total mass, a color-coded load percentage, current speed and active enchantment bonuses.

No Anvil Penalty is server-side only, open source under the Apache License 2.0 and published for Fabric 1.21.4, so it changes a different system. G-Forces is client-side only, open source under the MIT License and made for 1.21.11, so it runs on the player's side alone. Massmotion must be on the server and is not open source.
