LuxName

by Equitice

LuxName lets players give items custom color-coded names through a chat command, and the renamed item keeps its new name between sessions.

FabricClient-side onlyMIT LicenseOpen source1.21 – 26.1.2

What it does

A player holds an item in the main hand and types a rename command in chat, with color codes written as an ampersand followed by a letter or number. The new name shows on that item only in the player's own view. Players without LuxName still see the original item name, and the rename is stored by item type and damage value, so items of the same type with different damage values do not share one rename. Renames are saved between sessions and reload automatically when the world opens again.

The mod runs on the client alone, so a server does not need it installed and players can use it on any server without a server-side install. It is built for Fabric and requires Fabric Loader and Fabric API. Files cover game versions 1.21 – 26.1.2 under the MIT License, and the source code is open source with a public issue tracker.

Because the rename is visual, LuxName changes how the name is displayed and nothing about the item's stored type. Anvil use is not part of the mod, so a rename made through the chat command is the only way it applies.

Key features

  1. Color-coded item names

Item names can carry color codes, written with an ampersand followed by a letter or number.

  2. Chat-based renaming

A rename is entered as a chat command while the item is held in the main hand.

  3. Visual-only renames

A rename changes only the displayed name for the player who set it, not the item's type.

  4. Saved renames

Renames persist between sessions and reload automatically when the world loads.

  5. Per-damage-value storage

Renames are tied to an item type and damage value, so separate damage values keep separate names.

It requires Fabric Loader and Fabric API on the client. The mod is published for Fabric only.

Are custom item names visible to other players?
