LoTAS-Light is a Fabric utility for Tool-Assisted Speedruns on Minecraft 1.20.3 and later, with a reduced feature set after Mojang patched parts of the original LoTAS tools.

What it does

Tick control is the core of the mod. Its tick rate can be raised above 20 to speed up the player and the game, lowered to slow them down, or set to 0 to freeze the world. A dedicated freeze key toggles the zero rate, and a second key advances the game by exactly one tick while frozen, which lets a run be stepped through frame by frame.

The mod is aimed at speedrunners and TAS authors who need deterministic control over timing. Changes to tick rate affect the player's movement and actions as well as the world, so the mod is used where precise timing matters rather than for normal play. Because it is a Fabric mod, the loader and Fabric API must be in place before it starts.

LoTAS-Light requires Fabric API and is incompatible with LoTAS and TASmod, so those should be removed before installing it. Client and server both need the mod, since tick changes must match on each side to stay in sync. It is open source under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only, with a public source repository and issue tracker. Files cover 1.20.3 – 26.3, and the latest Fabric build is 1.3.7 for 26.3, published 2026-09-20.

    A toggle key sets the tick rate to 0, freezing the player and the world until it is switched off.

  3. Single-tick advance

    While the game is frozen, a second key advances it by one tick at a time for frame-by-frame stepping.

  4. Reduced feature set

    Some original LoTAS features were removed after Mojang's changes, so this continuation covers a smaller set of tools.
