Lifesteal

by Diesse

Lifesteal turns player-versus-player fights into a lasting contest: each kill moves half a heart from the defeated player to the killer.

What it does

Lifesteal is a minigame mechanic for survival PvP. When a player dies, the killer gains half a heart of maximum health, while the loser gives up that same amount for good. Over time, players who win fights grow stronger, while those they fight must recover lost hearts to keep pace.

The mod suits servers that run survival battles, where one mistake can cost a player a large share of their health. Because the change is permanent, the result of each fight carries into later encounters, and only the strongest players tend to last. Lifesteal is distributed as a data pack that works with Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, and is released under the CC0 1.0 Universal license, so it is not open source in the usual sense.

Server owners install Lifesteal on the server, since the environment is server required with the client optional. Players can join without the mod, but the server must run it for the heart transfer to take effect.

Key features

  1. Heart transfer on kill

A kill moves half a heart of maximum health from the defeated player to the killer.

  2. Permanent health change

The gained and lost hearts stay in place across deaths, so each fight shapes later fights.

  3. Competitive survival loop

Players who defend their hearts rise in strength, while weaker players must win back what they lost.

  4. Stakes for every fight

Losing a duel costs health that may not return, which makes each encounter matter in survival worlds.

Use cases

Who it’s for: Server owners who run player-versus-player survival worlds and want kills to change the game permanently. Players on such servers meet the mechanic in play and do not need to install anything.
