KSwitch

by Snownee

KSwitch lets a player cycle through different items held in the same slot, from the hotbar or the inventory, with a short press or a long press.

FabricForgeNeoForgeQuiltClient and serverAll rights reserved1.20 – 26.1.2

What it does

Players bind a key, by default Mouse Button 4, to open an item-switching HUD. Pressing it brings up the list of items that can take the slot, and the player moves to the previous or next entry to swap them in. Convertible items in the inventory can be converted from one form to another in the same way, and a single item in the hand can be converted without touching the rest of the stack.

The tool works on both the hotbar and the main inventory, so a switch can be made without opening a container. Container screens opened through Fabric are supported, and the instructions for the latest version are included with the mod. Alongside the switching itself, the author describes the mod as a set of neat builders for common hand actions.

Its files target 1.20 – 26.1.2, with the most recent Fabric build for 26.1.2. It runs on the client and on the server, so both need it, and it is released under All rights reserved, which means it is not open source. It requires Fabric Screen Layers and Kiwi.

Key features

  1. Item-switching HUD

A heads-up display opens on a key press and lists the items that can occupy the slot.

  2. Short and long press

A short press moves to the next or previous item, while a long press uses a different action.

  3. Hand conversion

A single item held in the hand can be converted to another form without affecting the stack.

  4. Hotbar and inventory

Switching works on the hotbar and in the main inventory, and convertible inventory items are handled the same way.

Questions

Does KSwitch need Fabric Screen Layers and Kiwi?

Yes. Both Fabric Screen Layers and Kiwi are required dependencies and must be installed alongside KSwitch.

Does the server need KSwitch?

Yes. Servers that run it need every player to install it too.

Which loader should be chosen for KSwitch?

The latest Forge file targets 1.20.1, while the other loaders have builds for 26.1.2, so the loader should match the game version chosen.

Can the switch key be changed?

The default is Mouse Button 4, and the key binding can be set in the game's controls menu.

What the author says

This is a handy tool for switching between different items in the same slot. By default, you can press the Mouse Button 4 to bring up the item-switching HUD. It works in both Hotbar and inventory. Neat for builders. Instructions for the latest version: - Click: Convert all items in hand - CTRL+Click: Convert one item…
