Vertical Scroll

by _stonyyy

With Vertical Scroll installed, a player can move through the hotbar column by column, bringing items from the inventory into the selected hotbar slot without opening the inventory screen.

FabricNeoForgeClient-side onlyMIT LicenseOpen source1.21 – 26.3

What it does

Scrolling up brings the top item of the selected column down into the hotbar slot, and scrolling down brings the bottom item up. Holding a modifier key, which is Left Alt by default and can be rebound under Controls, cycles items through the column instead. A small overlay above the selected slot shows the three inventory slots stacked over it along with their counts, and arrows mark the ends of the column. Only items move, so the hotbar selection stays where it is.

The mod runs on the client alone, so players can join a server that does not have it. Server owners need to install nothing. It covers Minecraft 1.21 and later, including the 1.21.x releases and 26.1, with builds for Fabric and NeoForge. The code is released under the MIT License and is open source, with public source code and an issue tracker.

Key features

  1. Column scrolling

Scroll wheel input moves the top or bottom item of a hotbar column into the selected slot.

  2. Modifier-key cycling

Holding the modifier key cycles items through the whole column of three inventory slots above the hotbar slot.

  3. Column overlay

A small overlay above the selected hotbar slot shows the three stacked items and their stack counts.

  4. Rebindable modifier

The modifier key defaults to Left Alt and can be changed under the Controls menu as Vertical Scroll.

What the author says

Hold a modifier key and scroll to cycle items through the vertical column of your selected hotbar slot, no more opening your inventory just to swap what's in hand. The hotbar selection stays put; only the items move.
