KeepThatInventoryOpen

by Sn0wix

KeepThatInventoryOpen keeps the crafting grid usable after a player closes their inventory, by changing which packets the client sends to the server.

FabricClient-side onlyMIT LicenseOpen source1.18 – 26.3

What it does

The mod is a simple client-side change that stops the game from sending a close-inventory packet when the crafting grid is in use. The crafting grid then works as extra storage space while the player is away from the screen. Only the client needs it, so players join servers without installing anything on the server side. It requires Fabric API, and Mod Menu is optional. Files are published for Fabric across 32 release versions, 1.18 – 26.3, under the MIT License, and the source code is open source.

Key features

  1. Crafting grid as storage

Items placed in the crafting grid stay there after the inventory screen closes, adding storage space.

  2. Close packet suppressed

The client skips the close-inventory packet it would normally send to the server when the grid is in use.

  3. Open inventory packet

Opening the inventory still sends its usual packet to the server, so normal inventory behavior is kept.

What the author says

Background: When you open an inventory, the client does not send a packet to the server. However, when you close the inventory, a packet is sent. This behavior prevents you from using the crafting grid as a storage space. Use at your own risk. Some servers may view this as an unfair advantage.
