Pickup

by JohnSeagull

Pickup lets players collect dropped items by right-clicking them, and the Pickup mod can also change how items are taken up from the ground.

FabricServer required, client optionalAll rights reserved26.1 – 26.1.2

What it does

With Pickup installed on a Fabric server, a player who right-clicks an item entity picks it up instead of walking over it. The behavior that stacks the item into the hotbar or inventory and places it in the active slot when the hand is empty is part of the modded pickup. The mod can be switched off so the vanilla walk-over pickup system works again, and the two options can be turned on or off independently of each other.

The configuration is handled by a GUI run by a server operator, who can edit settings and apply them without restarting the world. Configuration changes are validated on the server, which catches invalid values before they take effect. The mod can also replace the hitbox of item entities with custom dimensions, with a ceiling of 1x1x1 blocks so items cannot be crammed together, which helps players aim at them since vanilla item entities are fairly small to target. Operator permissions are required to change the settings.

Installation needs Fabric API. Mod Menu is optional and adds a configuration screen in the game menu. Pickup is published for Fabric only, for 26.1 – 26.1.2 with 1.3+26.1 for 26.1.2 as the latest file, and is licensed as All rights reserved, so it is not open source. Only the server needs it, and the client remains optional.

Key features

  1. Right-click pickup

Items are collected with a right click on the item entity, which toggles the modded pickup behavior.

  2. Count and glow overlays

A name-and-count overlay displays the item currently in the player's sight, and a glow effect can make the aimed-at item stand out.

  3. Adjustable overlay range

The distance at which overlays appear can be set separately from the interaction range, or it can use the player's EntityInteractionRange attribute.

  4. Custom item hitbox

The item entity hitbox can be replaced with custom dimensions, capped at 1x1x1 blocks, to make targeting easier.
