I've Spoken
Players who want RPG-style speech bubbles over their heads can use I've Spoken, a Fabric and Quilt mod for 1.18 – 1.21.
What it does
Each chat message appears as a dialog box above the speaker's name for about five seconds before it disappears. The display time and the length of text shown can be changed in the config. Fabric API and Night Auto Config are required. The mod is client-side only, so only the player who installs it needs it, and it is released under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only as open source.
Key features
Dialogs above names
Chat lines show as RPG-like dialog boxes floating above the player's name tag.
Timed display
Each dialog stays on screen for about five seconds, then vanishes unless configured otherwise.
Configurable text length
Long messages are cut to a length the config sets, so large walls of text do not cover the view.
