Item Vanisher

by ZipeStudio

Item Vanisher is a Fabric client mod that turns off the rendering of dropped items lying on the ground, so fewer entities are drawn each frame.

FabricClient-side onlyMIT LicenseOpen source1.21

What it does

Dropped items on the ground are drawn as models with hitboxes and shadows, and a busy area of the world can contain many of them at once. Item Vanisher stops that drawing on the player's own client, which can raise the frame rate in places where items pile up, such as near mob farms or item sorting setups. Nothing is removed from the world: the items still exist, and picking them up works as usual.

A toggle button lets the player switch ground item rendering on or off while playing, so the items can be shown again when needed. The mod is client-side only, so only the client needs it and servers do not have to install anything. It is published for Fabric and for Minecraft 1.21 only, with a single file, 1.0.0 for 1.21, dated 2024-08-27. Its source code is public and the code is open source under the MIT License.

Key features

  1. Ground item toggle

A button switches the rendering of dropped items on the ground on or off, without restarting the game.

  2. Lower draw load

Skipping the models of many ground items reduces the work the client does each frame in areas full of drops.

  3. Items remain in the world

Hidden items still exist and can be picked up, so the change affects only what is drawn on screen.

  4. Hitboxes and shadows

Item hitboxes and shadows are part of what the mod stops drawing when ground rendering is off.

Use cases

Item-heavy areas

Players who spend time around farms, sorting machines or piles of loot can turn ground rendering off where the frame rate drops.

Switching back when needed

The toggle lets a player see dropped items again before looking for a specific stack.

Who it’s for: Players on Fabric 1.21 who want to reduce the drawing cost of dropped items on their own client. The mod does nothing on a server and does not change how items behave.

How it compares

Full comparison

CommandF3 is a Fabric client mod for 1.21.1 – 1.21.11 under the MIT License, and it is not open source in the same sense as this mod. My Hitbox is also client-side and Fabric-only, but it targets 1.21.11 and is released under All rights reserved. Entity Render Disabler is client-side and open source under the MIT License, covering 1.21 – 26.2, so it reaches more versions than Item Vanisher.
