Iron's Spells: Incantation

by hoggormino

Incantation lets players cast Iron's Spells n Spellbooks spells by speaking their names aloud, using a microphone and an offline speech recognizer.

ForgeNeoForgeClient and serverMIT LicenseOpen source1.20.1 – 1.21.1

What it does

Incantation opens the microphone itself and feeds the audio straight into Vosk, an offline speech recognizer, so no voice-chat mod is involved. The recognizer works from a closed grammar built from the spell names that installed mods register, and it can only answer with a known spell, so a phrase that matches nothing is rejected. Recognition runs entirely on the machine, with no audio transmitted or recorded.

Only spells that are equipped can fire. Casting is gated by what the player has equipped: a spellbook in the Curios slot, an imbued weapon being held, or imbued armor being worn. Servers can switch the gate to a spellbook held in the hand by setting castMode to SPELLBOOK. The mod requires Curios API and Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks, and Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks is needed for the spells themselves to exist. Files are published for Forge and NeoForge, covering 1.20.1 and 1.21.1, and the mod runs on client and server, so both sides need it.

Key features

  1. Voice casting

Saying a spell's name out loud casts that spell, and saying a name that matches nothing does nothing.

  2. Equipped-only firing

Spells fire only when the matching gear is equipped, and a confidence threshold must be met before a spell is cast.

  3. Live microphone display

A corner HUD chip shows a level meter for the microphone and the last phrase recognized.

  4. Milestones and stats

Vanilla advancements mark voice-cast milestones, and a Voice Codex screen reports personal stats such as top spell and daily streak.

  5. Test arena

A practice mode records what would have been cast without firing any spell, so players can check recognition safely.

Questions

Does Incantation need Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks?

Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks is listed as an optional dependency, and the spells Incantation casts come from it, so it is needed in practice to cast anything.

Does a server need Incantation installed?

Yes. The environment is client and server, so the server and every player need the mod, and servers can use the castMode setting to choose how casting is gated.

Does Incantation send microphone audio anywhere?

No. Recognition runs on the machine, and the mod states that microphone audio is never transmitted, recorded or written to disk. The only network access is a one-time speech model fetch on first launch, which can be turned off by setting autoDownloadModel to false.

What the author says

Incantation captures your microphone directly, runs the audio through an offline speech recognizer (Vosk), and casts whichever Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks spell you just said. No voice training, and the speech model installs itself on first launch. Incantation opens your microphone itself — no voice-chat mod involved…
