Inventory++

by ModdedWolf

Inventory++ adds sorting, quick-stack, nearby deposit, item locking and a trash slot to the player's inventory screen on Fabric for 26.2.

FabricClient and serverMIT License26.2

What it does

Sorting rearranges the 3×9 inventory grid, and the hotbar stays where it is. When a chest, barrel, shulker box or other container is open, a quick-stack action moves matching items from the inventory into it, and a deposit action sends matching items from the player's inventory to nearby containers within about 5 blocks. Items can be dragged onto a trash slot beside the hotbar to delete them, or a hovered slot can be locked by pressing L, which shows a gold border that follows the stack even when it is moved. Locked items are skipped by sorting, quick-stack, deposit and trash.

The mod is installed on the client and on the server. Singleplayer works without extra setup, while a multiplayer server needs the mod too, otherwise the buttons do nothing. It requires Fabric API and is published for Fabric only, with the 1.0.0 file for 26.2, released 2026-08-31. The code is under the MIT License and is not open source.

Key features

  1. Sorting the inventory grid

    A sort button in the inventory screen rearranges the 3×9 grid and leaves the hotbar alone.

  2. Quick-stack into containers

    With a chest or similar container open, matching stacks from the inventory move into it in one step.

  3. Deposit to nearby storage

    Matching items are sent to chests, barrels and shulker boxes within about 5 blocks of the player.

  4. Item locking with a gold border

    Pressing L on a hovered slot locks the item, and pressing the key again removes the lock.

  5. Trash slot

    Dragging items onto the trash slot beside the hotbar deletes them.

  6. Configurable key bindings

    Defaults can be changed at any time under Options, Controls, Inventory++, and the Sort Player Inventory bind is unbound by default.

How it compares

Full comparison

Quick Sort is a Fabric mod for 26.1 – 26.2 that runs on client and server, is released under the MIT License and is open source, so it covers sorting and quick-stack without the locking or trash features. Searchify is client-side only, works for 26.2 alone and is not open source, so players join servers without installing it. Explorer's Ender Chest is for 26.2, runs on client and server, is under CC0 1.0 Universal and is open source, and it changes ender chest access rather than the inventory screen.

Questions

Does Inventory++ need Fabric API?

Yes. Fabric API is a required dependency and must be installed next to Inventory++ on Fabric for 26.2.

Does a server need Inventory++ for the buttons to work?

Yes. The mod runs on client and server, and without it on the server the buttons show nothing happen.

Are locked items affected by sorting or the trash slot?

No. Sorting, quick-stack, deposit and the trash slot all skip locked items.

What the author says

Smart inventory management with sort, quick stack, nearby chest deposit, item locking, and a trash slot. Needs to be on both the client and the server. Singleplayer works as-is. On a multiplayer server, install it there too or the buttons will show but nothing will happen.
