Player Tracker Compass

by NewJumper

Player Tracker Compass lets a player point a compass at another player and follow that player's position through the world.

FabricNeoForgeClient and serverAll rights reserved26.1.2

What it does

Holding the compass and right-clicking changes the tracked target, cycling through the online players in alphabetical order. Sneaking while right-clicking cycles the opposite way. In the same dimension the compass points at the target's real-time location. When the target is in a different dimension, the compass points to the last known position, and it updates again once the target returns to the same dimension or travels to the target's dimension.

The compass is intended for multiplayer servers, minigames and social play, where players want to locate friends or rivals. Players get the item from the creative menu by searching for Player Tracker, or with the give command. The mod requires Fabric API and runs on client and server, so the server and every player need it. It is published for Fabric and NeoForge for 26.1.2, and the code is under All rights reserved, so it is not open source.

Key features

  1. Track any online player

The compass can target any player in the world, with the target picked from the list of online players.

  2. Real-time direction

Within the same dimension the compass points at the tracked player's current location.

  3. Last known position

When the tracked player is in another dimension, the compass points to where that player was last seen.

  4. Cycle targets with right-click

Right-clicking moves to the next player alphabetically, and sneaking with a right-click moves to the previous one.

  5. Locator bar comparison

The mod's notes describe how the compass differs from the vanilla locator bar, which distinguishes y-levels only when a target is close enough.
