illusion
by linstarowo
Illusion lets a player replace the rendered model of a utility block with another look while keeping the block's original function, and it is available for Forge and NeoForge.
What it does
Illusion changes how a block entity is drawn without touching what it does. A player picks a model with the Show Block in the off-hand and applies it to a block with the Illusion Crystal, so a utility block can take on the shape of another block. The mod is aimed at decorative builds, where a functional block should look like a different material or object.
Every player and the server need a copy of the mod. It has to be installed on the 1.20.1 and 1.21.1 builds, with files for Forge and NeoForge; the latest Forge file is 1.1.0+mc1.20.1 and the latest NeoForge file is 1.1.1+mc1.21.1, which is marked beta. Embeddium and Sodium are required, and Yuushya Modelling is optional for custom models. The code is not open source; the author holds all rights, although public links to the source code exist.
Illusion is published under All rights reserved and was first released on 2026-01-10, with the last update on 2026-08-25. Indigo Renderer is compatible and can run safely alongside it when Synya Connector is installed.
Key features
Model replacement
A block entity can be given a rendering model that differs from its own shape while the original function stays in place.
Movement tool
Right-clicking air changes the movement axis, and right-clicking a transformed block moves its model along that axis; sneaking reverses the direction.
Block state tool
Right-clicking a transformed block cycles through its block states, so the model can match orientation, waterlogging and similar settings.
Show Block in the off-hand
Once a Show Block sits in the off-hand, the Illusion Crystal can be used to make a block entity take on that block's model.

How it compares
Yuushya Modelling is a Fabric, Forge and NeoForge mod under the MIT License, open source, for 1.16.5 – 1.21.1 and works with client and server; Illusion is not open source and covers only 1.20.1 and 1.21.1. 3D End Crystal is client-side only and adds models for Fabric and NeoForge across 1.21.1 – 26.3, so servers run without it. TexturesToMap is also client and server, with Fabric, Forge and NeoForge files for 1.20.1 – 1.21.11 under All rights reserved.
