IBE Editor

by skyecodes

IBE Editor opens a simple GUI for changing an item, a block or an entity in the current world, covering name, lore, enchantments and other stored data.

FabricForgeNeoForgeClient or server, optionalMIT LicenseOpen source1.16 – 1.20.4

What it does

Editing screens let a player adjust the fields of the held item, the targeted block or the selected entity without commands. The editable fields include the display name, lore lines with formatting, enchantments, attribute modifiers, hide flags, the can place on and can destroy lists, potion effects, block state, and a container's name and lock code.

The mod is open source under the MIT License and is distributed for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge. Either side can run it, and neither needs it. Files cover 1.16 – 1.20.4, with the latest file for 1.20.2 published on 2023-12-30. The Fabric build requires Fabric API, which must be installed alongside it. Installation, usage and configuration are described on the project wiki.

Newer releases from the 1.20 line onward have a different item data format, so this mod is not built for them and is limited to the versions listed above.

Key features

  1. Name and lore editing

Set the display name of an item and write lore lines with formatting codes.

  2. Enchantments and attributes

Add or remove enchantments and attribute modifiers on an item, with hide flags to control what the tooltip shows.

  3. Placement and destruction rules

Define which blocks an item can be placed on or can destroy, using the can place on and can destroy lists.

  4. Potion effects and block state

Edit the potion effects an item carries and the state values of a selected block.

  5. Container name and lock code

Change the name and lock code of a container block, such as a chest.

EditSign is a client-side only mod, open source under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only, for Fabric and Forge across 1.16.5 – 1.19.4, so it edits signs on the client alone. Item Editor is a Forge-only mod for 1.20.1 – 1.20.6, with the client and server environment and an All rights reserved license, so it is not open source. Questions

Does IBE Editor need Fabric API?

The Fabric version requires Fabric API. The Forge and NeoForge versions do not list it as a requirement.

Does IBE Editor have to be installed on the server?

No. Either side can run it on its own, and neither side needs it, so it can work on a client alone, a server alone or both.

Which Minecraft versions does IBE Editor support?

Files cover 1.16 – 1.20.4. Versions beyond the 1.20 line use a different item data format, so the mod is not built for them.
