EditSign

by Rakambda

EditSign lets players change the text on signs they have already placed, without breaking the sign or replacing it.

FabricForgeClient-side onlyGNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 onlyOpen source1.16.5 – 1.19.4

What it does

Players can reopen a placed sign and rewrite its lines. The mod is client-side only, so nothing needs to be installed on the server, and players on any server can use it. Eleven release versions cover 1.16.5 – 1.19.4 on Fabric and Forge, and the latest file targets 1.19.4 with a build dated 2023-03-21. The code is under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only and is open source. Fabric API is required on Fabric, and Cloth Config API is optional on Forge.

Key features

  1. Edit placed signs

Reopen any existing sign and change its text in place, with no need to break and place it again.

  2. In-game config screen

On Forge, Cloth Config API adds a configuration screen that can be opened from within the game.

  3. Mod Menu integration

Mod Menu can be used to reach the mod's settings when it is installed alongside that optional dependency.

Questions

Does EditSign need Fabric API?

On Fabric, yes. Fabric API is listed as required for that loader. On Forge it is not needed.

Is EditSign needed on the server?

No. It is installed on the player's side alone, so servers need nothing.

Why is the project discontinued?

The author notes that the project was discontinued because sign editing is now part of the game by default.
