HoneyPots

by catfisj

HoneyPots lets bees turn pollinated flowers into honey potions with effects, so a Nether wart is no longer needed for the recipe.

FabricServer required, client optionalGNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 or laterOpen source26.1.2

What it does

Honey potions take their effect from the flower a bee pollinated. The mod ships a built-in datapack, honeypots:pre, in which blue orchids take the role that Nether wart plays in vanilla brewing, which allows honey potions to be made without the Nether. Potion recipes can be defined and overridden through datapacks, so a world can change which flowers produce which effects.

The mod works completely server-side, and the server is the side that needs it. Clients can run it as an optional addition to see a custom texture for honey potions, though the client-side part does little on its own without a way to apply the potion. Optional integration with Reliable Recipe Viewer (RRV) and WTHIT is included.

HoneyPots requires Fabric API and is published for Fabric only, with files for 26.1.2. The latest file, 1.1.4, is dated 2026-05-21. The code is open source under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 or later.

Key features

  1. Flower-based honey effects

Each flower a bee pollinates sets the effect of the honey it produces, so the flower choice matters.

  2. Nether-free brewing path

The built-in datapack lets blue orchids stand in for Nether wart, so honey potions can be brewed without travel to the Nether.

  3. Datapack-driven recipes

Potion recipes can be defined and overridden in datapacks, letting world makers rebalance which effects appear.

  4. Custom honey potion texture

A custom texture is shown for honey potions on the client, when the client has the mod installed.

Use cases

Survival brewing without the Nether

Players who have not reached the Nether can still brew honey potions by using blue orchids and pollinated flowers.

Server-side potion balancing

Server owners can change which flowers grant which effects by editing the datapack recipes.

Who it’s for: Server owners and datapack authors who want honey potions tied to bee pollination, and players on those servers who brew them.

Questions

Does HoneyPots need Fabric API?

Yes. Fabric API is required, and the mod is published for Fabric only, for game version 26.1.2.

Does the server need HoneyPots?

Yes. The server must run it, while players may leave it out.

Can HoneyPots work without Nether wart?

Yes. Blue orchids take over the job Nether wart does in brewing, because the built-in honeypots:pre datapack assigns them that part of the recipes.

What the author says

Pots being short for Potions, of course. This mod makes it possible for honey to grant potion effects, if bees pollinate nether wart! The resulting effect(s) are then based on the flowers they pollinate after the nether wart.
