Hoe Scythes

by Luc1fer1o

Hoe Scythes lets a hoe held in the main hand clear grass-like blocks around the block that was broken, with the clearing area growing with the hoe's material.

FabricNeoForgeServer-side onlyAll rights reserved1.20.1 – 1.21.11

What it does

When a supported grass-like block is broken while holding a supported hoe, the mod removes the matching blocks in a square around it. Wooden and stone hoes clear a 3x3 area, iron and golden hoes a 5x5 area, diamond hoes a 7x7 area, and netherite hoes a 9x9 area. The default radii keep normal play close to vanilla behavior. Drops from the cleared blocks are handled as usual.

The mod is server-side only, so players join without installing anything, and it is built for Fabric and NeoForge across 17 release versions, 1.20.1 – 1.21.11. It adds no new tools and does not replace the vanilla hoes. The covered blocks are short grass, tall grass and large ferns, and the block list can be extended in the config to include plants such as flowers. The code and assets are released under All rights reserved, so the mod is not open source.

Key features

  1. Area by hoe material

Wooden and stone hoes clear 3x3, iron and golden hoes 5x5, diamond hoes 7x7 and netherite hoes 9x9.

  2. Grass-like block clearing

Short grass, tall grass and large ferns around a broken block are removed together with it.

  3. Configurable block list

The clearableBlocks option adds more plants, for example minecraft:poppy so that hoes clear poppies too.

  4. Vanilla hoes kept

Existing hoes keep their recipes and behavior, and the clearing only adds an effect on top of breaking.

What the author says

Hoe Scythes adds a simple, server-side quality-of-life feature for clearing grass, ferns, and seagrass without replacing vanilla hoes or adding new tools. When you break a supported grass-like block with a hoe, the mod clears nearby matching blocks in a square area. The clearing radius depends on the hoe material, so…
