Helmet overlay

by cprodhomme

Helmet overlay puts a visual layer on the screen while a player wears a helmet, imitating what the wearer would see through it.

FabricClient-side onlyAll rights reserved1.20.6 – 26.2

What it does

While a helmet is worn, the mod draws an overlay texture across the view, so the screen looks as if it is seen through the helmet's visor. The aim is a more immersive look at the helmet's perspective, and the effect is applied only on the player's own screen.

The default overlay can be replaced in two ways: by adding a custom image to a resource pack, or by editing the texture files directly inside the mod. Overlay files sit under assets/minecraft/textures/misc and are named after the item, such as iron helmet overlay.png. The mod requires Fabric API and is published for Fabric only, across 10 release versions. It runs on the client alone, and the author has tested it with Ninja Armor and Wolf Armor.

Helmet overlay is released under All rights reserved and is not open source, although its source code and issue tracker are publicly linked. The latest Fabric file is 1.2.3 for 26.2, dated 2026-06-18, and the mod was first published on 2024-08-21.

Key features

  1. Helmet screen overlay

A texture is drawn over the view while the player wears a helmet, simulating the helmet's perspective.

  2. Per-item overlay textures

Each helmet can use its own overlay image, named after the item in the misc texture folder.

  3. Resource pack replacement

The default overlay can be swapped with a custom image through a resource pack without changing the mod.

  4. Tested armor compatibility

The author lists Ninja Armor and Wolf Armor among the mods the overlay was tested with.
