HeartBalance: Health Pickups & player starting health

by Lothrazar

HeartBalance changes how much health players start with and adds health pickups that enemies drop, for Forge and NeoForge.

ForgeNeoForgeClient and serverAll rights reserved1.16.5 – 26.1.2

What it does

Enemies can drop heart pickups that restore health on contact, and the drop rates and amounts are set in the config file. A second option lets the server owner choose the health a new player begins with, from 3 up to the default of 10 hearts, while the default start remains 10 hearts in a single player world. Heart pickups can be crafted into stronger healing items later. The mod requires FLIB, and it runs on client and server, so both the server and every player need it. Files are published for Forge and NeoForge across 8 release versions, 1.16.5 – 26.1.2, and the mod is released under All rights reserved, so it is not open source.

Key features

  1. Enemy health drops

Hostile mobs can drop heart pickups that heal the player when touched, similar to healing items in Zelda.

  2. Adjustable starting health

The starting health of new players can be set lower, which suits modpacks that want a harder start.

  3. Crafted healing items

Heart pickups can be combined into healing items that are stronger than a single pickup.

  4. Config-driven drops

Drop chances and amounts are changed through the config file rather than in game.
