Hazard Diamond

by spadeteam

Hazard Diamond is a library mod that lets players create and display NFPA 704 hazard diamonds in the world without writing any code.

FabricQuiltClient and serverMIT LicenseOpen source1.19 – 1.20.4

What it does

Hazard Diamond implements the NFPA 704 hazard identification standard, the placard widely called the fire diamond. Players craft a Hazard Diamond item by placing dye of the matching quadrant color around a diamond iron ingot in the center, then place it in the world like a normal block. The placed diamond stays editable: a player approaches it and interacts to open an edit screen, and sneak-interacting with a honeycomb in hand waxes it into an immutable state.

The mod is primarily a library. Via its API, a mod can open an editable screen on the client, similar to a placeable entity, and receive the changes players submit. Installation requires Fabric API. Hazard Diamond runs on client and server, so the server and every player need it. Files are published for Fabric and Quilt for 1.20.4, and the code is under the MIT License, so the mod is open source. Optional support includes Mod Menu, WTHIT and YetAnotherConfigLib (YACL).

Key features

  1. NFPA 704 placards

Diamonds follow the NFPA 704 standard, with health, flammability, instability and special hazard quadrants set by the player.

  2. Craftable diamond item

The item is crafted from dye, a diamond and an iron ingot, so each quadrant color can be chosen at the crafting stage.

  3. Editable and waxable placards

A placed diamond opens an edit screen on interaction, and a honeycomb locks it so the entity shows an immutable state.

  4. WTHIT tooltip

With WTHIT installed, the hazard data of a placed diamond appears in a tooltip.

Questions

Does Hazard Diamond require Fabric API?

Yes. Fabric API is a required dependency on both Fabric and Quilt, so it must be installed next to Hazard Diamond.

Does the server need Hazard Diamond?

Yes. A server running it needs every connecting player to have it too.

How is a placed diamond locked against further edits?

Sneak-interacting with a honeycomb in hand waxes the placed diamond, which switches it to the immutable state. Interacting with it then shows the same screen without edit controls.

Which game versions does Hazard Diamond support?

Files cover 1.19 – 1.20.4 across seven release versions, with the latest file built for 1.20.4 and dated 2024-10-05.

The NFPA 704 is a standard created by the National Fire Protection Association. Colloquially, an implementation of this standard is known as a Fire Diamond or a Hazard Diamond. Despite being an extremely flammable material, Propane is a common household fuel used for barbecues and portable stoves. Take note of the…
