Harder Workbench
by ZigTheHedge
Harder Workbench makes the first hours of a Forge survival world slower, by moving the early recipes behind a special workbench and changing how stone and chests are obtained.
What it does
Crafting Table recipes are changed so the block is harder to get, and a village theft is no longer the usual shortcut. The Furnace recipe is also altered, but it stays fairly demanding. Chests no longer use plain planks as their base, and stone no longer drops cobblestone when mined; it yields Small Rocks instead. The mod is intended for players who want a harsher start, and it is described as a play-style choice rather than a balance fix for later stages.
Players craft the changed items at a special workbench, and the recipes are datapack-based, so a world can adjust them. Just Enough Items (JEI) is an optional dependency that adds integration for viewing the changed recipes. Installation covers the server and each player's game. Files target 1.19.2 only, with 1.0.4 as the latest Forge build, published in the beta channel on 2023-10-07. The mod is released under All rights reserved and is not open source, although its source code is publicly available.
Key features
Harder Crafting Table recipe
The Crafting Table recipe is changed so the block is harder to obtain early, instead of being found in a village.
Altered Furnace recipe
The Furnace recipe is modified to stay challenging while remaining reachable within the opening game.
Chests without plain planks
Chests no longer rely on plain planks, so early storage requires different materials.
Small Rocks from stone
Mining stone yields Small Rocks instead of cobblestone, which changes the early resource loop.
Special workbench
A dedicated workbench is used to craft the changed items, and recipes are defined in a datapack.

What the author says
This mod is played best with No Tree Punching! And yes, the mod adds a couple of simple items (Nails, Screws, Hinges, Boards, Glue) as well as a set of hand tools (Saw, Hammer, Screwdriver, Scissors, Hand Drill), which along with the Universal Workbench could be pretty useful for any hardcore modpack. So, feel free…
