GenshinThirdPerson

by ch1ck3n-ovo

GenshinThirdPerson changes how the third-person camera moves in Fabric, so the character follows the camera direction, in the style of Genshin Impact.

FabricClient-side onlyGNU General Public License v3.0 onlyOpen source1.20.1 – 1.21.8

What it does

Camera-based movement is the core change: the character moves in the direction the camera faces instead of turning toward the direction of travel. The mod also keeps the crosshair visible in third-person view, blocks switching to the front view, and smooths the camera when it is pushed against a wall, so it zooms out gradually once the obstruction lasts longer. Character fading lets the body turn transparent when it sits too close to the camera and would hide the view. Several easing curves are available for camera motion, including linear and ease-in, ease-out and ease-in-out variants, and two Genshin Impact presets are included.

The mod is client-side only, so it runs in single-player and on multiplayer clients without any server-side install. It needs Fabric Loader and is published for Fabric alone. Cloth Config API and Fabric API are required, and Mod Menu is optional for opening its settings screen. Files cover 1.20.1, 1.21.1, 1.21.2, 1.21.3, 1.21.4, 1.21.5 and 1.21.8, and the latest file is b2.0+1.21.8 for 1.21.8, released 2025-09-08 on the beta channel. The mod is open source under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only, with public source code and an issue tracker.

Key features

  1. Camera-based movement

The character moves relative to the camera's direction rather than its own facing, similar to the Genshin Impact control scheme.

  2. Always visible crosshair

The crosshair stays on screen during third-person view, so aiming remains readable at all times.

  3. Front view blocked

Switching to the third-person front view is disabled, which keeps the camera behind the character.

  4. Smooth camera clipping

When a wall blocks the camera, it zooms out gradually and the transition is eased instead of snapping.

  5. Character fade

The character turns transparent when it would block the view because the camera is too close.

  6. Easing curves

Camera transitions can use linear or one of the ease-in, ease-out and ease-in-out curves, with Genshin Impact presets.

Questions

Does GenshinThirdPerson need Fabric API?

Yes. Fabric API is required, along with Cloth Config API. Both must be installed next to the mod on Fabric.

Does the server need the mod?

No. Players add it to their own game, and a server needs no copy.

Can GenshinThirdPerson run with Camera Tweaks?
