Genesis Framework

by uhmbyee

Players who want a custom progression path can use Genesis Framework, a Fabric library for building age progression systems.

FabricClient and serverMozilla Public License 2.0Open source1.21.6 – 26.3

What it does

Genesis Framework creates age progression systems built on Advancements. Completing an Advancement opens items, blocks and even dimensions, and the progression can be linear, which adds friction to the vanilla progression. Modpack creators, server administrators and modders can define these systems through a data-driven approach.

A guidance system walks players through each stage of the new progression, pointing them toward the next goal while other gameplay features of the modpack or server continue unchanged. Details on how to use the framework are in the project wiki.

The mod is open source under the Mozilla Public License 2.0, runs on client and server, and is published for Fabric across 7 release versions, 1.21.6 – 26.3. Just Enough Items and Roughly Enough Items are optional and add item lookup if installed. Genesis depends on this framework.

Key features

  1. Advancement-based stages

Progression stages are tied to Advancements, so finishing one opens the next set of content.

  2. Gated content

Items, blocks and dimensions can be locked behind progression stages until a player reaches them.

  3. Linear progression

A stage order can be set to run in a fixed sequence, which slows the path compared with vanilla progression.

  4. Player guidance

A built-in instruction system tells players what to do next within the new progression.

Use cases

Modpack progression

A pack author can set stages that gate new content behind the pack's own goals.

Server pacing

Server administrators can slow down how quickly players reach late content on a shared world.

Who it’s for: Modpack creators, server administrators and modders who want a data-driven age progression system with Advancement triggers and player guidance.

How it compares

Full comparison

NoxaFrame is a Fabric and NeoForge framework limited to 1.20.1 – 1.21.1, and it is client-side only under the Mozilla Public License 2.0, so it is not a substitute for server-side progression. Genesis Framework covers 1.21.6 – 26.3 and is client and server under the Mozilla Public License 2.0, so it fits servers that need every player to run the progression.

Questions

Does Genesis Framework need a loader other than Fabric?

No. The framework is published for Fabric only, so it requires Fabric and runs on client and server.

Does the mod need Just Enough Items or Roughly Enough Items?

No. Both are optional dependencies. Installing either one adds item lookup alongside the framework.

Does the framework have to be installed on both sides?

Yes. Installation covers the server and each player's game.
