FPS-Display

by kada49

FPS-Display puts a configurable FPS counter on the screen for players on Minecraft 1.8.9 using Forge.

ForgeClient-side onlyMIT LicenseOpen source1.8.9

What it does

The overlay shows the current frame rate in one of the four corners of the screen and can be styled with personal settings. Players can change the text color, toggle a shadow or background, turn the prefix or suffix on and off, and adjust the scale. The counter can also step aside when the chat is open, so it does not cover messages at the bottom of the screen. Until version 1.3.1 these options were available as separate settings.

The mod is a client-side utility, so only the client needs it and servers run without it. It is released under the MIT License and is open source, with its source code and issue tracker public. The 1.3.1 Forge file for 1.8.9 is the only version on the page, dated 2023-09-27.

Key features

  1. Corner placement

The FPS counter is drawn in one of the four corners of the screen, chosen by the player.

  2. Personal styling

Text color, shadow, background, prefix and suffix can each be switched, and the scale can be changed.

  3. Chat-aware display

The counter in the bottom corners disappears while chat is open, so messages are easier to read.

  4. Update check

Typing fps update in game checks whether a newer version of the mod is available.

How it compares

Full comparison

BasicHUD is a Forge option for 1.8.9 that is also client-side only and under the MIT License. FPS Monitor covers Fabric and Forge for 1.16.1 – 1.20.1 and is open source under the MIT License. ShowFPS needs both client and server for 1.20.1 – 26.2, so it cannot run the same way on a server.
