FIFYM: Custom Crafting

by Crioch

FIFYM: Custom Crafting lets crafting recipes and furnace-type recipes declare ingredients that match only items with specific components.

FabricClient and serverMIT LicenseOpen source1.20.6 – 1.21.1

What it does

Mojang's custom crafting system was left half-complete, and this Fabric mod finishes it. Recipe ingredients can name the components an item must carry, so a recipe no longer matches any item of the same type. The mod extends the crafting table, the player inventory crafting grid, the smithing table, the loom and the anvil, and it covers the furnace-derived blocks: the smoker, the blast furnace and similar blocks. Fuel slots are affected as well, and a planned option would stop a fuel item from burning when it carries the fifymcc:fuel value.

Installation requires Fabric API. Installation covers the server and each player's game. The mod is released under the MIT License, is open source, and is published for 1.20.6 – 1.21.1 with files for 1.20.6, 1.21 and 1.21.1. Its latest file is 3.3.1+1.21.1 for 1.21.1, published on 2024-10-02.

Key features

  1. Component-aware ingredients

Ingredients can require specific item components, so unaltered items fill a recipe only when they match.

  2. Furnace-type recipes

Smokers, blast furnaces and other furnace-derived blocks accept component-specific ingredients in their recipes.

  3. Anvil repair ingredients

A new component specifies which item repairs another, and anvils can use custom remainders.

  4. Smithing and loom recipes

Smithing transform recipes and loom dye slots are covered, with trim recipes planned for a later update.

What the author says

With the introduction of Item Components in Minecraft 1.20.5, we were given the ability to add and remove components from the result of a crafting recipe, but Mojang didn't allow recipe ingredients to specify components, making it so you could accidentally use unaltered items to fill the requirements. This mod fixes…
