Feathers

by Elenai

Feathers adds a stamina pool shown as a feathers bar above the hunger bar, and its amount depends on the weight of the armor a player wears.

What it does

Feathers is a Forge library that adds a row of extra feathers over the hunger bar, drawn in the Vanilla+ style and placed much as the absorption effect sits above health. Other mods can use these feathers to drive stamina-based actions such as running, jumping or crawling. The number a player can access is set by the weight of the armor worn. Armor weight is calculated automatically, can be overwritten in the config, and covers both vanilla and modded armor items.

The mod also changes how armor is chosen in combat. Heavier armor gives better protection but less maneuverability, while lighter armor allows more movement at the cost of defense. Each hit taken costs more feathers, so a stronger fighter has a smaller reserve to spend on dodging or diving out of attacks. Feathers regenerate quickly, and the regeneration pauses while certain effects are active. Three new potion effects are added to the game and work directly with the feathers mechanic.

Feathers is published for Forge only, for 1.20 – 1.20.2, and the latest file is 1.1 for 1.20.2. Installation covers the server and each player's game. The code is open source under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 or later. Mods that build on it include Shove! and Feathers Actions.

Key features

  1. Feathers bar

A set of extra feathers is shown above the hunger bar, styled after the Vanilla+ interface.

  2. Armor weight

The feather count follows the total weight of worn armor, and weights can be overwritten in the config.

  3. Three potion effects

Three new potion effects change feather regeneration and interact directly with the stamina pool.

  4. Developer API

A small API lets other mods register their own stamina actions, such as running, jumping or crawling.
