Factory API
Factory API is a library that gives other mods a shared set of loader-neutral tools for screens, events, networking and storage, and it is required by several mods.
What it does
Its screen system lets mods add or change many interface elements. Changes can be applied through resource packs, which is the main route, or written in code. Shared events are mostly abstracted from the mod loaders, so a mod written against them does not need separate hooks for each loader.
A common network layer sends and registers payloads in one way across the supported game versions, with little change needed between them. Item, fluid and energy storage are implemented in common form and exposed through the matching API of each loader. Block lighting levels with access to Level are provided here as well, though that part only exists on Fabric, while Forge and NeoForge already have their own.
Factory API needs Fabric API and runs on client and server, so the server and every player need it. Files are published for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, covering 22 release versions, 1.16.5 – 26.1.2, under the MIT License. It is not open source. Legacy4J, Better Furnaces Reforged, Legacy World Sizes, Factocrafty and Legacy Console World Sizer are among the 5 mods that require it.
Key features
Resource-pack screen edits
Interface elements can be added or modified through resource packs, and the same changes can also be made in code.
Loader-neutral events
Most events are abstracted from the mod loaders, so one event model serves Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt.
Unified payload network
Payloads are sent and registered through one common network layer that needs almost no change between game versions.
Shared storage types
Item, fluid and energy storage have common implementations that expose the correct API for each loader.
Block lighting levels
Blocks can carry lighting levels with access to Level, a part currently implemented on Fabric.

Dependencies declared by the latest file for each loader.

Use cases
Base for dependent mods
Mods such as Factocrafty build on it, so it must be present for them to load.
Who it’s for: Mod developers who want one codebase for screens, events, networking and storage across several loaders, and server owners who run packs that include a mod requiring it.
