F3 Screenshot

by Builderb0y

F3 Screenshot lets a player save the F3 debug screen as an image file and copy the same text to the clipboard for sharing.

FabricClient-side onlyMIT LicenseOpen source1.20 – 26.1.2

What it does

When the F3 debug overlay is open, the mod saves what is on screen to a text file, so a player can paste the debug data into a bug report or a chat message. The text file is also copied to the clipboard, which removes the step of opening the file manually. Developers often ask players for this information when they troubleshoot a problem, and the mod provides it in a form that can be sent without extra steps.

The screenshot function covers a limit of the F3 menu itself. When the window is small and the GUI scale is large, the debug text can run off the screen or overlap itself, which makes it hard to read. The mod captures the overlay as an image so the whole set of lines is preserved. Since Minecraft 1.21.9, the F3 menu can be customized, and the mod follows those settings in the output.

Installation needs Fabric API as an optional dependency, so the mod works without it but gains its features only when it is present. Players add it to their own game, and a server needs no copy. Files are published for Fabric across 22 release versions, 1.20 – 26.1.2, under the MIT License, and the code is open source.

Key features

  1. Debug text saved to a file

The F3 overlay content is written to a .txt file that can be attached to a bug report or shared directly.

  2. Clipboard copy

The same debug text is copied to the clipboard, so it can be pasted into a chat window or issue form at once.

  3. Overlay screenshot

The debug overlay is saved as an image, which keeps every line even when the window is too small for the text to fit.

  4. Normal screenshot copy

A regular screenshot can also be copied to the clipboard, as an extra feature that works like a separate clipboard mod.

What the author says

F3 screenshots. Very useful for developers when your game is having problems. But they are not without their flaws: If your window resolution is small enough (or your GUI scale is large enough), sometimes the F3 menu doesn't actually fit on your screen. And sometimes it overlaps with itself, which makes it difficult…
