Vertigo
by Builderb0y
Vertigo limits how much chunk section data the server sends each player, so taller worlds stop flooding the connection with empty air.
What it does
Normally each player receives every section of every chunk near them, which becomes costly in packs that make the world taller, such as the Big Globe example that reaches 2048 blocks of overworld height. Vertigo syncs only the chunk sections near the player vertically, so sections far above or below are not tracked. The server reports a distant section to the client as empty, which lets the client treat it as full air.
Vertigo requires Fabric API and runs on Fabric for Minecraft 1.20 – 26.1.2. Since the mod works on either side and neither needs it, it can be added to a server, a client, or both. It is released under the MIT License as open source. Minecraft has delayed chunk syncing since 1.21 to adapt to a player's connection, which helps a lot, but the author found no other mod that fully solved the problem, so Vertigo was written to address it directly.
Key features
Vertical chunk section syncing
Only chunk sections near the player vertically are synced, cutting the data sent for tall terrain.
Empty distant sections
Sections far above or below the player are reported to the client as empty without sending their blocks.
Querying sync state
An included API lets other code check whether a specific player already knows about a specific chunk section.
Other tracking unchanged
Tracking methods other than the vertical section limit keep working as Minecraft normally handles them.

Use cases
Tall worlds
Packs that extend the overworld upward, where most of the height would otherwise be synced as air.
Multiplayer servers
Servers with many players, where less data per player lowers bandwidth and makes timeouts less likely.
Who it’s for: Server owners running tall-world packs, and players on those servers who want less sync overhead. The mod is meant for worlds that exceed vanilla height and is not needed for standard worlds.

What the author says
By default, Minecraft keeps entire chunks synced with players, which is problematic when using mods or data packs which make the world taller. Big Globe for example makes the overworld 2048 blocks tall. The reason why this is problematic is two-fold: 1. It means there's a lot more data to sync from the server to the…
