Extra Villager Professions - Seafarer
by draemato
Extra Villager Professions - Seafarer replaces the Cartographer trades of a renamed villager with a set of sea-themed offers, using the villager trade datapack feature added in 26.1.
What it does
Players rename a villager with a name tag to Seafarer, and the villager then offers trades tied to the sea, such as ink sacs, glow ink sacs, tropical fish, iron nuggets, prismarine shards and sea lanterns. Because vanilla has no way to add a true new profession with its own block mechanics, the mod swaps the Cartographer trades for ones that apply only under certain conditions, and the existing trades stay as they are.
Installation requires a server-side installation, with the client required to see the changes. Trades that have already been assigned do not update when the datapack changes, so an existing villager must be replaced to receive the new offers. Seafarer is published for Fabric, NeoForge and Quilt on 26.1 – 26.1.2, with the 1.0.0 file for 26.1.2 as the latest release, and it is licensed under the GNU General Public License v2.0 only, which means the mod is not open source.
The mod is marked work in progress. Its author notes that the datapack lacks assets, so villagers keep the look of normal Cartographers and the trade names are not translated. A set of reset commands restores a Seafarer to its original state for players who want to remove the trades, and uninstalling the datapack requires operator privileges.
Key features
Sea-themed trade set
Seafarer offers trades for ink sacs, glow ink sacs, tropical fish, iron nuggets, prismarine shards and sea lanterns.
Name tag conversion
A Cartographer is turned into a Seafarer by renaming it with a name tag, and the change takes effect at the villager's Cartography table.
Conditional trade replacement
Vanilla Cartographer trades are replaced with ones that apply only under certain conditions, while existing trades are left unmodified.
Reset commands
Operator-level commands return a Seafarer to its original state, so villagers can be restored without being removed.
