Easier Mob Heads

by draemato

Easier Mob Heads changes how vanilla mob heads drop, so they no longer require charged Creepers, and the Ender Dragon head always drops on a final hit made with a Silk Touch axe.

FabricNeoForgeQuiltServer required, client optionalCC0 1.0 Universal1.21.11 – 26.1.2

What it does

Vanilla mob heads can be obtained from an axe enchanted with Silk Touch, and the drop chance rises with the Sharpness level of the axe. The base chance is 10%, which increases by 5% per Sharpness level and reaches a total of 50% at Sharpness V. Without the mod, heads depend on a charged Creeper's blast, which makes them a rare collectible.

The Ender Dragon head drops on every final hit made with a Silk Touch axe, regardless of other conditions. Wither Skeleton skulls already drop without charged Creepers in vanilla, and the mod's datapack affects only vanilla mobs. It works with the More Mob Heads datapack from Vanilla Tweaks. The mod is server required with a client optional environment, and it is released under CC0 1.0 Universal, which is not open source. Builds cover 1.21.11 – 26.1.2 on Fabric, NeoForge and Quilt, and a datapack version is also available.

Key features

  1. Silk Touch axe drops

Vanilla mob heads drop from kills made with an axe enchanted with Silk Touch.

  2. Sharpness-based chance

The drop chance starts at 10% and grows with each Sharpness level, up to 50% at Sharpness V.

  3. Ender Dragon head drop

The Ender Dragon head drops on every final hit made with a Silk Touch axe.

  4. Datapack option

A datapack variant applies the head changes to vanilla mobs only, for servers that do not want to install a mod.

Trophy collecting on a server

Players who want heads without hunting for charged Creepers can farm them with a Silk Touch axe on a shared server.

Who it’s for: Server owners who want mob heads to be easier to obtain, and players who collect trophies on vanilla-based servers.

Questions

Does Easier Mob Heads need to be installed on the client?

No. It is required on the server and optional for players.

Which loaders does Easier Mob Heads support?

Does the datapack change Wither Skeleton skulls?

What the author says

Vanilla mechanic of obtaining Mob Heads using Charged Creepers is great for a challenging collectible trophy, but for general gameplay it is certainly too much. This datapack attempts to fix it by giving you a chance to get a Mob Head by killing a mob using a Silk Touch enchanted Axe.
