Enhanced Hoes

by Jodek

Enhanced Hoes changes how hoes break blocks, so a single hoe swing can clear a patch of plants or leaves in one action.

FabricForgeNeoForgeQuiltServer required, client optionalMIT LicenseOpen source1.21 – 1.21.4

What it does

The mod extends the hoe with a wider breaking pattern, covering more blocks such as acacia and azalea leaves, big dripleaf, birch leaves and brown mushrooms. The list of affected blocks is set by the mod, and players do not need a separate tool for it. Only the server needs the mod, while the client may leave it out. Files are published for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, for 1.21 – 1.21.4.

The mod also ships a data pack, so a world can use the same behavior without a mod loader on the server. Installing the data pack for a single-player world is covered in the FAQ. The code is released under the MIT License and is open source, and the source code and issue tracker are public. First published 2024-05-06, last updated 2024-12-04, with the latest files for 1.21.4.

Key features

  1. Wider hoe breaking

Hoes break a larger set of blocks in one use, including leaves, dripleaf and mushrooms.

  2. Plant-focused block list

The affected blocks cover common farm and decoration plants, which suits gardens and tidy builds.

  3. Data pack option

A data pack version gives the same behavior to worlds and servers that cannot install a mod loader.

Use cases

Clearing gardens

Players working on farms or gardens can remove leaves and plants in fewer swings.

Tidying builds

Builders who clear vegetation around a structure can use the hoe across more blocks.

Who it’s for: Players and server owners who want hoes to break more plant blocks, with the mod on the server and an optional client install.

How it compares

Full comparison

Hoe Harvester is a similar hoe mod, but it is all rights reserved and not open source, with files for 1.21 – 1.21.11 on Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt. Farm Better with Hoes is open source under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only and covers 1.21 – 26.3 on the same four loaders. Like Enhanced Hoes, it works on either side, and neither needs it when the server runs it alone.
