EB's Leafy Piles
EB's Leafy Piles, by EternalFragment, adds freestanding leaf piles that players can place to build new shapes, and the piles take the color of the biome they are placed in.
What it does
Leaf piles are single-use blocks that behave like leaf-textured carpet, but they are freestanding rather than flat on the ground, so they can float and support unusual builds. Breaking one with a punch, flowing water or a hoe drops nothing unless the tool has Silk Touch, and shears remove them in the usual way. Like ordinary leaves, the piles change color according to the biome where they are placed, so they match nearby foliage.
Installation requires Fabric API. The mod is for the Fabric loader on Minecraft 1.20.1 only, and its single Fabric file, 1.0.0-1.20.1, was published on 2024-02-19. Every player and the server need a copy of the mod. It is released under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only and is not open source.
Key features
Freestanding leaf piles
Piles are not flat carpet, so they can be stacked and placed in the air to build new shapes.
Biome-based coloring
Each pile takes the foliage color of the biome it is placed in, matching surrounding leaves.
Silk Touch drops
Leaf piles only drop as items when broken with a Silk Touch tool.
Hoe and shears breaking
A hoe or shears break leaf piles, and flowing water or a punch removes them too.
Compatibility
Latest build for each game version and loader.

Use cases
Decorating forests and gardens
Piles placed on trunks, branches or the ground add leaf cover to builds in any biome.
Freeform builds
Because the piles float, they can serve as detail for canopies and hanging structures.
Who it’s for: The mod suits builders who want leaf decoration on Fabric for Minecraft 1.20.1, on single-player worlds and on servers where both the server and players install it.
How it compares
Leaf Pile is a Fabric mod for 1.20.2 with the same environment, client and server, and the same GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only license, and it is open source. Leaf slabs is open source under the MIT License and runs on Fabric for 1.18.2 – 1.21.11, but only on the client. Falling Leaves is another client-side option, open source under the MIT License, for 1.16 – 26.3.

Leaf piles break easily (single punch, or flowing water), and can only be dropped using silk touch hoe, or shears to break them. Unlike carpet, leaf piles are freestanding, and can therefor 'float', allowing you to…
