Unbreakable
Unbreakable reworks how item durability works, so favorite tools can last longer and worn items shatter into weaker versions instead of disappearing.
What it does
Durability loss depends on the action performed, and tools lose more durability for some actions than for others. When an item reaches zero durability it becomes Shattered rather than breaking outright: it keeps working at reduced strength, its negative durability grows as it is damaged further, and it eventually becomes useless. Shattered items can still be repaired, at a higher cost.
Weapons can deal extra critical damage when they are about to break, and anvils no longer cap repair costs; the repair cost instead scales with the enchantments on the item. Every part of the durability system is configurable, and the mod is built to rebalance the overall gameplay loop by adding more nuance to weapons and tools.
The mod requires Fabric API and oωo (owo-lib). Mod Menu is optional and is what exposes the settings screen, where each feature can be disabled or tweaked individually. Unbreakable is built for Fabric and runs on the client and the server, with two release versions, 1.21.3 and 1.21.4. Its code is not open source; the license is Creative Commons Attribution 4.0.
Key features
Action-based durability loss
The amount of durability an item loses depends on the action that wears it, not a flat value per use.
Shattered items
Items that reach zero durability become Shattered, keep working at reduced strength and only later turn useless.
Costlier shattered repairs
Shattered items can still be repaired, but the repair costs more than for an intact item.
Configurable features
Every change can be disabled or tweaked on its own through the Mod Menu settings screen.
