DarkInventory
With DarkInventory installed, a player keeps the inventory items they carry when dying, so nothing drops on the ground after death.
What it does
DarkInventory keeps a player's items after death instead of letting them drop. On a singleplayer world the mod turns the Keep Inventory gamerule on automatically when it is installed, and the gamerule can be switched back off with a command. The mod also handles Curse of Binding items, which are removed from armor and other equipment slots when the player uses its clear command and follows the on-screen instructions.
The mod runs on the client and on the server, so both the server and every player need it installed. Trinket items are lost in one case: players should remove them before clicking the link in chat. The mod supports Vanity Slots and Trinkets on Fabric only, and it requires Fabric API. It is part of a family of companion mods by the same authors, which together add an RPG layer with quests to vanilla gameplay, though this mod only covers items on death.
Key features
Items kept after death
Inventory contents stay with the player after death, so nothing is dropped where the player dies.
Automatic Keep Inventory gamerule
On singleplayer worlds the mod switches the Keep Inventory gamerule on, and a command turns it back off.
Curse of Binding removal
A clear command removes Curse of Binding items from armor and other slots, after the player confirms the on-screen steps.
Trinkets and Vanity Slots support
The mod works with Vanity Slots and Trinkets, and trinket items should be removed before the link in chat is clicked.

How it compares
Keep Inventory Always and Keep Inventory are server-side alternatives that cover many loaders, with Keep Inventory open source under the MIT License. Death Item Chest works on Fabric and NeoForge and stores the items in a chest instead of keeping them on the player, under the MIT License. Keep XP on Death is Fabric-only and open source under CC0 1.0 Universal, and it keeps only experience rather than items.
