The Backrooms - Cubliminal

by Cubliminal Team

The Backrooms - Cubliminal sends players into infinitely generated dimensions where sanity drains over time and the layout shifts, with custom blocks, items and effects added to the vanilla game.

What it does

The mod generates a series of backrooms levels that players can enter and explore. Level 0 includes the Redrooms and the Manila Room, and further levels are added on top of those. Sanity is shown as a bar: it begins to drain soon after arrival, and it falls faster in certain areas, such as the Redrooms. Once sanity drops low enough, the paranoia status effect makes vision confusing and eventually damages the player. Sanity can be restored by drinking almond water in certain levels, or by staying inside the Manila Room, and dying resets it.

Once a player has entered the Manila Room, the mod also allows passing through walls: the player runs into a wall and holds that for a couple of seconds, then drops into the right dimension, and the timer for this state starts over. The mod is open source under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later. It runs on Fabric for 1.21.3 with Fabric API required and Mod Menu optional, and it is needed on both the server and every player's client.

Key features

  1. Infinite backrooms dimensions

Dimensions are generated without end, with rooms, corridors and an exit door that has to be found in each level.

  2. Sanity system

A sanity bar drains over time and faster in dangerous areas, and staying still in dark places or sleeping for several days can also affect it.

  3. Custom blocks and items

Wallpapers, variants, decorations and a gateway block are added, along with weapons, almond water and silver ingots found in buried treasure chests.

  4. Overlays and effects

Screen overlays, shaders, reverb and renderer effects, along with the paranoia status effect, shape how the backrooms feel.
