Cooldown for Totem of Undying

by AdaMorgan

Cooldown for Totem of Undying puts a 60-second recharge on the totem's revival effect, so a player cannot chain saves back to back.

FabricClient-side onlyMIT License1.19.2

What it does

Once a Totem of Undying is used, the revival stops working for 60 seconds. The timer behaves the way an ender pearl's cooldown does, so a second totem held in the offhand or inventory waits until the timer runs out before it can save the player again.

The mod is built for Fabric and targets Minecraft 1.19.2 only. Fabric API is required, because the mod uses its networking and event handling. It runs on the client alone, so players install it and servers do not need it. Cooldown for Totem of Undying is released under the MIT License, and the project is not open source.

Key features

  1. Revival cooldown

A 60-second timer starts after each Totem of Undying is used, and the totem cannot revive the player during it.

  2. Ender pearl style timing

The recharge follows the same pattern as the ender pearl cooldown, so players already familiar with that item can predict it.

  3. Single-player and multiplayer use

The cooldown applies to the player's own totem use, whether the world is local or on a server the player joins.

Use cases

Harder survival runs

Players who want totems to offer less safety net can rely on the timer to space out their revivals during a long fight.

Boss encounters

With the revival delayed, a boss fight that drains several totems in a row becomes a test of timing rather than stock.

Who it’s for: Players on Fabric 1.19.2 who want a tighter survival experience and are comfortable with a client-only change that limits how often a totem can save them.

How it compares

Full comparison

Auto Use Totem is a Fabric mod for 1.21 – 1.21.11, released under the MIT License and open source, and it runs on the client alone. Totem Cooldown targets 1.20.1 and is server-side only under the MIT License, though it is not open source. Add Craftable Totems is server-side only for 1.21.8 – 1.21.11 under All rights reserved, so it does not make the totem's cooldown changes that this mod makes.

Questions

Does Cooldown for Totem of Undying need Fabric API?

Yes. The mod uses Fabric API for networking and event handling, so Fabric API must be installed alongside it on Fabric 1.19.2.

Does the server need this mod?

No. It is installed on the player's side alone, so servers need nothing.

How long is the cooldown?

The cooldown lasts 60 seconds after a Totem of Undying is used, and it works the same way as the ender pearl cooldown.
