Totem Cooldown
by verkme
Totem Cooldown puts a configurable delay on the Totem of Undying, so a player cannot chain several totems back to back on a Fabric server.
What it does
Normally a player can use one Totem of Undying after another without any pause. This Fabric mod enforces a cooldown period between uses, which slows down repeated saves during a fight and adds a strategic choice to survival play. The length of the cooldown is set in seconds through the totemCooldownSeconds option, and the time counts down from the moment a totem is used.
When a player tries to use a totem while the cooldown is still running, the mod shows a notification. The text comes from the messageOnCooldown option, so server owners can reword it. The notification can appear in the action bar or as a chat message, chosen with the showMessageInActionBar option. The mod is released under the MIT License and is not open source. It targets 1.20.1 only and is published for Fabric alone, with 1.0 for 1.20.1 as the latest file, dated 2025-02-27.
Key features
Cooldown between totem uses
After a totem saves a player, the same player must wait the configured number of seconds before another totem takes effect.
Configurable cooldown length
The totemCooldownSeconds option sets how long the cooldown lasts, letting the server owner tune how strict it is.
Custom cooldown message
The messageOnCooldown option sets the text shown when a player tries to use a totem during the cooldown.
Action bar or chat display
The showMessageInActionBar option decides whether the notice appears above the hotbar or in the chat log.
Compatibility
Latest build for each game version and loader.
Only full game releases are shown. This mod publishes no snapshot builds.
Use cases
Limiting totem spam
Server owners who want fights to keep some risk can use the cooldown so players cannot stack several totems in a row.
Who it’s for: Server owners running Fabric 1.20.1 who want to tune how often the Totem of Undying can be used. Because the mod is server-side only, players join without installing anything.
How it compares
Craftable Totem is also a Fabric server-side mod under the MIT License, but it covers 1.20.1 – 1.20.4 and changes how totems are obtained rather than when they can be used. Cooldown for Totem of Undying is a Fabric client-side only mod for 1.19.2, so it runs on the player side and not on the server. Player Totem is open source under the MIT License and is a client-side only Fabric mod for 1.20.1 – 1.21.11.
